After 35 years of dedicated service, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), FCT Directorate, has bid a heartfelt farewell to one of its longest-serving and most respected officers, Mrs. Agbanusi Ijeoma Joy. Her retirement on March 29, 2025, marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for both the Agency and Mrs. Agbanusi herself.
In an emotional handover ceremony held in Abuja, Mrs. Agbanusi officially passed the mantle of leadership to Mr. Aminu Abubakar Wodi, her senior deputy and head of the PRS Department, who now assumes the role of Acting State Director.
A Trailblazing Journey
Mrs. Agbanusi’s remarkable career began on April 9, 1990, with the now-defunct MAMSER (Mass Mobilization for Self Reliance, Social Justice, and Economic Recovery), which later evolved into the National Orientation Agency. From her early days in the Accounts Department to her ascension as State Director of the FCT Directorate, her journey has been marked by dedication, innovation, and a deep commitment to public service.
One of her most notable contributions was the introduction of a new government accounting system in 1998—an enduring legacy that remains in use today. She also played a key role in training NOA state accountants across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, ensuring the system’s successful nationwide adoption.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Agbanusi served in several critical roles, including COMO in Kuje, OBM Desk Officer, Head of Accounts for the FCT Directorate, and eventually State Director. Each role bore the hallmark of her integrity, professionalism, and steady leadership.
A Leader Remembered for Heart and Humility
In her farewell address, Mrs. Agbanusi reflected on her journey with heartfelt gratitude and pride:
“Today, the 29th day of March 2025, officially marks the end of my illustrious career with the National Orientation Agency (NOA). It is a moment filled with great pleasure but also mixed emotions.”
“I am filled with deep gratitude for the opportunities I’ve had, the challenges I’ve overcome, and the incredible people I’ve met along the way while fulfilling my duties.”
She extended her appreciation to the NOA’s leadership and her colleagues, singling out Director General Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu for his support and confidence in her abilities:
“I extend my sincere appreciation to the entire NOA FCT Directorate staff for their unwavering support and camaraderie throughout my tenure. I am truly honoured to have worked alongside such a talented and dedicated team.”
Looking to the future, she expressed confidence in her successor, Mr. Wodi:
“I trust that the Directorate will continue to thrive under his capable leadership.”

Mr. Wodi, in his acceptance speech, described Mrs. Agbanusi as a “pillar of discipline and integrity” who led with empathy and excellence. He pledged to continue her legacy while steering the Directorate forward.

“Mrs. Agbanusi, lovingly called ‘Mother’ by many of us, was more than just a boss. She was a mentor, guide, and steady support. Her leadership was humble and committed, and we will truly miss her.”
