President Bola Tinubu departed Lagos for Pretoria, South Africa, yesterday, June 18, 2024, to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Cyril Ramaphosa. According to a tweet from Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, Ramaphosa secured a new mandate following South Africa’s general elections held on May 29.
Despite his party winning 159 out of 400 seats in Parliament, Ramaphosa’s African National Congress (ANC) has entered into a ruling coalition with the Democratic Alliance and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), traditionally its political rivals. This coalition enabled Ramaphosa’s re-election by Parliament last Friday.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria after the inauguration ceremony, as reported by his special adviser on information and strategy.
